Apparition - An unusual appearing ghostly figure. A ghostly figure; a spectre.
- Referred to as life-after-death.
Demon - An evil supernatural being; a devil. An evil spirit
or being which is said to have not ever lived on earth in human form.
Demonologist - A person, usually
a member of the clergy, who studies and catalogs demons.
Demonology - The study of demons.
- The paranormal movement of objects out of a secure enclosed space.
Direct Voice Phenomenon (DVP)
- A Spirit voice, spoken directly to sitters at a sťance. The sound usually seems to come from a point near the medium,
or through a spirit horn or trumpet, but not from the mouth of the medium.
Dowsing Rods - A Y-shaped
or two L-shaped rods used in locating or communicating with ghosts.
Ecto/Ectoplasm - An immaterial
or ethereal substance, especially the transparent corporal presence of a spirit or ghost.
Field (EMF) - A force given off by electric charges found in anything that uses electricity. The higher the
spikes, the more potential there is for paranormal activity.
Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) - A Spirit voice, that has been captured and recorded on an analog or digital voice recorder.
- Referred to as a ghost, spirit, or demon.
EVP Global Survey (EGS) - A long running survey created by Rick Oestmann. It is a series of 20 generalized EVP session questions that
are collected and tallied from participating groups around the globe. ~R•O•P•E~™
is the first Kentucky based group to participate in this survey.
Medium - A person who professes
to be able to communicate with spirits.
Mist - An anomaly (not usually seen at the time with the
naked eye) that appears on photos/videos as a "cloud of smoke" thought to be Spirit energy, also called Ecto.
- A sphere or spherical object. Something of circular form; a circle or an orbit.
- Beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation.
Pareidolia - A psychological phenomenon
involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Also known as "matrixing".
Phantasm - A phantom or an apparition. Also called phantasma.
- The fear of ghosts.
Phenomenology - An approach to research that aims to describe and clarify a
person's own experience and understanding of an event or phenomenon.
Poltergeist - A ghost/spirit
that manifests itself by noises, rappings, and the creation of disorder.
Psychic - A person with
above average ESP abilities.
"ROPE Stand (The)" - A device created and developed by Mitch Silverstein. The device was created as the base for the "Secure
& Steady Divining Rods" Device. Mitch named this device after our group, Researchers of Paranormal Experiences
(~R•O•P•E~™), due to the mutual idea for the base and the feedback provided for the
field testing for the "Secure & Steady Divining Rods" Device. "The ROPE Stand" prevents the rig from
toppling over when the dowsing rods are in place and not mounted on a tripod, however, is also tripod mountable.
"Secure & Steady Divining Rods" Device - A device created and developed by Mitch Silverstein. The device holds the dowsing rods in place in aluminum
holders. The main cross beam has a mounted center bubble level and the device can be mounted on a tripod. The
device is still in the experimental stages, but the purpose is to free up any self or purposeful manipulation of the dowsing
rods. ~R•O•P•E~™ has the fourth device made.
- Spirits or ghosts which are usually black in appearance and have no discernible features. People usually see them
out of the corner of their eye, and have also been known to be captured on film.
Vortex - A place
or situation regarded as drawing into its center all that surrounds it.
